HUVITUS CAMPUS – Education in Harmony with Nature

Located in Yläne, in the heart of Southwest Finland, the Huvitus Campus offers a one-of-a-kind learning environment where history, nature, and education come together. Surrounded by forest and lake, the campus carries the legacy of the historic Huvitus Garden, blending the serenity of nature with Finland’s forward-thinking approach to education. Built according to the Finnish educational model, the campus features modern classrooms, laboratories, and creative studios designed to nurture each student’s academic and personal potential. Comfortable student dormitories and well-planned social areas ensure a high standard of living, while facilities such as an indoor sports hall, greenhouse, and nature laboratories enhance students’ physical, social, and environmental learning experiences. The surrounding forest trails, lake views, and open-air activities make Huvitus more than just an educational center — it is a living campus that invites students to explore, experience, and draw inspiration from Finland’s nature and culture.

History

The Huvitus Campus takes its name from the Huvitus Garden, established in the 19th century by renowned Finnish naturalist Carl Reinhold Sahlberg. The garden played a pioneering role in the development of the Huvitus Apple and other fruit varieties. Later, the founding of the Huvitus Girls’ School further strengthened the region’s long-standing educational tradition.

Campus Location

Set amidst the natural beauty of Yläne, the Huvitus Campus lies where the lake meets the forest, creating a setting ideal for both study and reflection. The vast green areas and lakeside surroundings provide opportunities for learning through direct contact with nature — from ecological observation and scientific research to creative exploration.

The location offers not only a peaceful study environment but also the perfect backdrop for nature walks, fieldwork, and outdoor projects. This unique landscape helps students enhance creativity, well-being, and their personal connection with the natural world.

Vision and Values

At Huvitus Campus, education and nature are inseparable. Inspired by Sahlberg’s spirit of discovery, students grow into curious, creative, and confident individuals.

Our philosophy goes beyond academic instruction — it cultivates character, creativity, and leadership. Each student is encouraged to think critically, act responsibly, and learn through both structured study and natural exploration.

School Buildings

The campus includes classrooms, laboratories, and creative studios built in line with Finnish architectural and educational principles.

Students participate in a wide range of programs — from Finnish language courses and scientific workshops to artistic and interdisciplinary projects. The facilities are designed to bridge theoretical knowledge and practical experience, allowing students to grow through both individual study and teamwork.

Innovative learning methods and flexible classroom layouts encourage self-expression, collaboration, and hands-on discovery.

Dormitory Building

The on-campus dormitory offers a safe and comfortable living space for students. Rooms designed for two or three occupants provide a cozy and scenic setting, often overlooking the lake and surrounding landscape.

Shared spaces foster community life, encouraging students to socialize, collaborate, and build lasting friendships. The dormitory experience is more than accommodation — it is an integral part of social learning, helping students develop independence, cooperation, and cultural awareness.

Indoor Sports Hall

The indoor sports hall is used throughout the year for sports events, tournaments, and recreational activities. Equipped to support multiple disciplines, it plays a vital role in developing teamwork, leadership, and resilience.

Beyond athletics, it serves as a dynamic venue for school-wide gatherings and community events, reinforcing both physical well-being and social engagement.

Greenhouse and Nature Areas

The campus greenhouse and nature laboratories provide spaces for hands-on learning in plant cultivation, ecology, and environmental science.

Practical studies featuring the Huvitus Apple and other native plant varieties make learning both engaging and educational. These outdoor classrooms enable students to develop environmental awareness and conduct scientific research through direct observation — integrating academic learning with real-world experience.

Social and Activity Spaces

The campus includes spacious communal and outdoor areas that encourage social interaction and experiential learning.

Designed for sports, group projects, seminars, and cultural events, these spaces help students strengthen communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.

By turning learning into a social and joyful experience, Huvitus creates a vibrant campus culture where education extends far beyond the classroom.
